Your Role
As a Financial Accountant, you will be instrumental in transitioning the full accounting function in-house, which has until now been handled by external tax advisors. You'll design and implement robust accounting processes, ensure compliance with German GAAP (HGB), and contribute to the financial integrity of our fast-growing company. This role reports directly to the Finance Director and collaborates closely with external auditors, tax advisors, and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting
Set up and manage all day-to-day accounting activities in compliance with HGB and tax regulations
Take over general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and asset accounting
Prepare and maintain accurate accounting records and monthly closings
In-House Transitioning
Design and implement processes to migrate accounting from external partners to internal systems (currently DATEV)
Ensure continuity and accuracy during the transition period
Train and coordinate with internal staff on financial processes and compliance
Financial Reporting & Compliance
Prepare annual financial statements (HGB)
Ensure timely and accurate VAT and other tax filings in Germany
Coordinate with auditors and tax consultants as needed
Internal Controls & Process Optimization
Establish internal controls and documentation to support audit-readiness
Recommend and implement automation and efficiency improvements
Work with the broader finance team on budgeting, forecasting, and internal reporting

Job requirements
Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent qualification (ACCA etc.)
Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in financial accounting in Germany; international exposure a plus.
Sound knowledge of HGB and German tax regulations, especially VAT
Experience with DATEV or similar German accounting systems
Experience with implementing finance systems/ERPs, bringing outsourced finance functions in house a plus
Native in German and fluent in English
Experience in a start-up or scale-up environment is highly advantageous
